Esthetician Spotlight: Sandia Mettler, Forever Institut
As we continue our esthetician spotlights, it was time to highlight an esthetician from our sister company Forever Institut, in Geneva, Switzerland. Sandia Mettler has been part of the Forever Institut team for almost 20 years. Originally trained as a massage therapist, she is now a laser hair removal expert and peel master. Here, Sandia shares a little bit about her esthetician journey with our co-founder and CEO Ada Polla (who still loves getting massages from her!).
AP:What was your journey to becoming an esthetician?
SM:I became an esthetician a little bit by chance. I was a massage therapist, and I knew an esthetician at Forever Institut who was leaving her position. She encouraged me to apply for her job. I did – and got the job. I have been there ever since and am forever grateful to her!
AP:Where do you currently practice?
SM:I am still working at Forever Institut – it has been almost 20 years now!
AP:How did you discover Alchimie Forever? What was your first Alchimie Forever product?
SM:I discovered Alchimie Forever at Forever Institut. The first product I was introduced to was the Soothing Body Lotion (formerly named Afterlase, I still find myself using that name!), which I use on my clients after every laser hair removal treatment.
AP:What is your favorite Alchimie Forever product and why?
SM:I can’t live without the Pigment Perfecting Serum. The texture is perfect (lightweight, so smooth on the skin), it multi-tasks (works on pigment, redness, hydration), and it has both immediate and long-term benefits.
AP:What Alchimie Forever product do you use or recommend the most to clients?
SM:The two products I recommend the most (I can’t pick just one!) are the Pigment Perfecting Serum and the Advanced Retinol Serum. They are the most results-oriented product in the line, and perfect for my clients who are looking to work on signs of environmental aging.
AP:What is your #1 skin care recommendation to your clients?
SM:Prevention, prevention, prevention! Mornings should involve an antioxidant product followed by SPF, and evenings should focus on repair. That is why I recommend the two serums mentioned above.
AP:What’s your skin care hot take/unpopular opinion/controversial idea?
SM:Beware of where you are purchasing your skin care products from – I don’t believe in fakes, dupes, or anything in between. Buying skin care on Ebay? I don’t think so!
AP:What’s one thing you avoid at all costs when taking care of your skin?
SM:I avoid the sun like the plague and I do not drink alcohol, all in the vein of anti-inflammatory care.
AP:Can you talk about the connection between self care and skin care?
SM:Skin care is absolutely a form of self care, because when you take care of your skin, you’re taking care of yourself. Self care is also about taking care of your mind, your body, your nutrition, your lifestyle habits, your sleep… without guilt or hesitation.
AP:What is your favorite form of self care?
SM:To do nothing! I take small breaks throughout the day without a goal or a purpose, without having activities to do. I love having a coffee on one of the many Geneva terrasses, slowly, mindfully, being present in the moment… without looking at my phone. If I could, I would go to a Thai spa every day!
AP:Take us through your morning routine.
SM:I wake up a little bit before 7am, after having slept 8 hours. (I committed to sleeping more some time ago, and I feel so much better!) I take care of my skin, I drink coffee, and I take my daughter to school. I love this moment we share every weekday morning.
AP:What are you excited about right now?
SM:We just launched a new treatment at Forever Institut: mesotherapy with gluthation and NAD+. I love new treatments! And I was also super excited to be asked to do this interview! Thank you!
