In honor of National Clean Beauty Day, we wanted to share with you what “clean beauty” means to us - which we apply to our formulations, our manufacturing practices, and our packaging.
We do not use the 1,000+ ingredients prohibited by European cosmetics regulatory bodies, including REACH legislation.
We strongly believe that an effective preservative system is key to safe cosmetics formulations, and use only the following lab-made preservatives to ensure no mold, yeast, or bacteria grow in our formulations: benzyl alcohol, benzoic acid, sorbic acid, chlorphenesin.
We are also sulfate-free, paraben-free, PEG-free (polyethylene glycols), gluten-free, soy-free, free of GMOs, dye-free, and nut-free.
We do not use iron oxides, aluminum, kojic acid, triclosan, hydroquinone, mineral oil, propylene glycol, formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasers, or anything in nano-particles.
Recognizing that the body of knowledge in our industry evolves and changes, we continue to search for, test, and source ingredients that are as efficacious and pure as possible. We are committed to being transparent, authentic, and accountable to science.
Clean also means that we continually work on our carbon footprint. We are working on transitioning all our plastic packaging to a sugarcane plastic, which is less stressful on our planet. We use outer boxes for many of our products, because boxes protect our more delicate formulations from light and heat. That said, we’ve now transitioned our paper packaging to FSC-certified paper and soy ink.
Lastly, our formulations are concentrated, so a little bit goes a long way – meaning you don’t have to repurchase products every few weeks, but rather every couple of months. This helps cut down packaging waste.
